RELECTING YOU

wedding photography THE LANGHAM HOTEL LONDON

I’ve photographed many wedding celebrations at The Langham hotel over the years and every time I return I know I’m going to enjoy it. The service is always absolutely impeccable and I know the wedding day is going to run so smoothly I can concentrate with total focus on the photography. Also, that my wedding couples are going to be able to relax and enjoy themselves, too! The Langham offers you the chance to celebrate your wedding outside in the flower-filled courtyard garden and that gives me an opportunity to grab some relaxed photographs of your family and friends in beautiful natural light right in the very heart of metropolitan London. I'm privileged to be a recommended supplier and delighted to have such a long relationship with the weddings and events team at this very special venue.

Brides tell me they choose The Langham because it’s a luxurious hotel experience with the ability to host hundreds of guests in style. Often the wedding party moves from an afternoon reception in the courtyard garden to the hotel's splendid ballroom for the evening dancing. Cutting the wedding cake in the centre of that dance floor is something special. The hotel is a real historic luxury venue – it was Europe’s first ‘Grand Hotel’ when it opened in 1865 – and there's this impressive combination of high ceilinged rooms with gorgeous detailing, such as Murano glass chandeliers, as well as impeccable service. I feel if you've gone to the trouble of booking such a high-status venue, it should translate to the wedding photography as well. But as always the imperative thing is to capture people in the moment so that any of my couples can feel they've received great reportage - the shots that tell the story of your wedding day at The Langham - and also stunning wow! shots and modern, fun group shots, with the focus on what you want. From the afternoon reception to the evening dancing, there are a lot of different locations for wedding photography at The Langham, with a lot of different lighting requirements. The hotel's deliberately impressive, wedding-cake architecture makes the entrance a perfect background for a dramatically lit, night-time image of bride and groom that reflects the fact this is a stylish, metropolitan, classy wedding.

We can also usually nip across from The Langham to All Souls Church, with its elegant Regency columns, for some special couple shots that really speak of a sophisticated, elegant wedding, and while we never take too long away from the party, all my newly-weds seem to find this a much-appreciated interlude together. Doing this swiftly and unobtrusively means that the wedding couple enjoys the chance to take a few quiet moments alone, away from the throng, before heading back so they don't feel as if they're neglecting family and friends. As one bride put it: ‘We felt we were getting some one-on-one time to relax but never felt as if we were away from our guests for too long or were removed from the party.’

Famous names

The Langham’s history is littered with famous names. It has hosted the ‘great and good’ from Diana, Princess of Wales and Winston Churchill through to fictional heroes from Sherlock Holmes to James Bond (played by Pierce Brosnan for the film Goldeneye.) What a venue for a wedding breakfast!

Europe's first 'grand hotel'

It is the hotel that brought the new idea of ‘Afternoon Tea’ to the British public when it first opened in 1865 and revolutionised the hotel experience with electric lights, lifts and air conditioning. The emphasis on faultless service, in my experience, is what makes a wedding there run so smoothly.
