Handing over the blog today to Sam to write about her and Ed’s engagement shoot in the Lake District. I had an amazing time, now over to Sam!
One of the key decisions for Ed and I during the wedding planning process was choosing the right photographer. We have friends all over the world and our wedding will provide us with the perfect opportunity to bring together all our favourite people in one place. Ensuring that we have great photos and that the vibe of the day is captured is a huge priority for us.
Alex’s style appealed to me straight away; I love his landscape images, where the couple aren’t the sole focus and really admire his creative and technical expertise with lighting. Given the British weather, it’s great to have a photographer with the skill to create amazing lighting in case nature doesn’t provide it at the right moment!
Neither of us are that comfortable in front of the camera so we decided a pre-wedding shoot would give us a chance to have some fun and get to know Alex better. We’re getting married by the sea so wanted a completely different landscape for the engagement photos – we camp and hike in the Lake District each year so it was a natural choice.
The day before we met up with Alex we did some scouting to find a range of different scenes which would hopefully provide us with some great images and didn’t require a long walk to get there. As always, we knew we were going to be at the mercy of the weather so hoped that at least some of the sites would work out if the light wasn’t with us.
We met Alex & Rob in sunny Buttermere over coffee, bacon butties and even a cheeky affogato to catch up and review the places we spotted the day before. After a leisurely lunch we went down to the lake for a crash course in ‘what to do to look great in front of the camera’ before promptly forgetting everything and getting caught up in having a great time, being silly and laughing far too much! We had a huge amount of fun and adventure as we transitioned from forest to lake to picnic to river to jetty with the odd change of outfit en route.
Thanks Alex – we had a blast! You certainly captured the love, laughter and energy of the day. Can’t wait to see how you record our beach wedding with all our favourite people next year!
