So for those of you who don’t know what One & Other is, where have you been? To fill you in, you might want to check out this post here.

Anyway, Bob the Pot took the the plinth last week for his spot. The idea? Get everybody on the ground to make clay models of themselves, then using the wonders of a fishing rod, hoist them up and add them to a clay plinth constructed, yes, on top of the plinth. He then intends to fire the plinth and auction it for Friends of Fulbourne, a charity caring for sufferers of mental illness. I agreed to come along, take some photos then take some shots of the final sculpture.

And finally I put my strobist skills to good use. Behold, the unfired plinth:

For the rest of you strobists hanging around here, I’ve included the obligatory napkin setup shot below. Apologies for the iPhone quality of it…

In case you can’t read it, the plinth is in the middle on a piece of Plexiglas, sitting on top of some black fabric. Above and slightly to the left is an SB900 in an XS Chimera softbox with a grid on the front to kill the spill, right is a bare SB24 at the same height as the figures, front left is a 450Ez fired into a lumiquest softbox 3. The light from the softbox 3 way only intended to provide a smidgen of fill. Unfortunately as it turned out too bright and lacking any NDs I used the only thing to hand (well leg, my leg) to slightly gobo it. That’s about it, I had to burn in the edges slightly since this was a touch Heath Robinson and the background didn’t stretch all the way to the sides.

If you want to find out more about the plinth on the plinth, its creator or the story behind it, check out its website here.
