Welcome to my shiny new blog! Well by the time you read this it probably won’t be shiny and new any more but hopefully it will have a lot more relevant content. This forms one of my New Year’s resolutions which is to be more proactive in publishing my work and letting you all see the fun things I’ve been up to.
So sit back, relax and enjoy! Oh and feel free to leave a comment!

So I seem to be having a bit of a time breaking things of late. A paramount 3.5mm flash jack decided to part company with itself, my main camera bag stitching is coming undone on me and then I turned around the other day to see a 3metre flash stand hit the floor as the wind caught it.
Luckily the softbox cushioned most of the fall and I thought everything was OK at the time. When I checked later though it tuned out softbox speedring had bitten the dust and my Elinchrom Quadra flash head had it’s locking leaver snapped in two. Doh!

Anyway I contacted the flash centre about the quadra fully expecting a hefty repair bill and to have to send it off for repair but no. After a bit of trouble getting through to start with they were most helpful and managed to dispatch the replacement part to me FOC. Very happy, was really worried I’d have to loose the flash for a couple of weeks but no, a simple self repair and now I’m back in business a very happy chappy. Mad props to the Flash Centre. Just need to figure out how to mend that speed ring and hotshoe cable now….
More adventures (hopefully involving less breakages) to come…

So I’ve been working on Alana and David’s wedding album and website recently. The good news is the website is now finished and I’ve just put together this little video slideshow for them as well. Enjoy!

More adventures soon,

So for those of you who regularly read the blog you might have been wondering where on earth I’ve dissapeared to in the last few weeks. Well I’ve been working on a Philip Pullman play, “Clockwork” which has just finished it’s run at the ADC Theatre in Cambridge.
Due to my normal crazy lighting for photographs, the director, Holly, asked if I would be the lighting designer on the show. Well I couldn’t say no and as such embarked on my first foray into the world of theatre. I have to confess I found it really quite interesting and it’s really made me appreciative of my photography lighting. Enter the theatre and suddenly I was banned from all softboxes, photoshop and flashes and instead had to contend with hot yellow continuous light which couldn’t interfere with audience vision and had to work across an entire stage. Quite a mission.
I think we succeeded though: had lots of good feedback and reviews. I did take one very quick photograph while on set, of all the major cast members. It actually made it into the Cambridge News along with the review and a photo by Hugo Vincent, a good photographer friend of mine. Hugo stepped up to take the photos of the performance since I was otherwise indisposed operating the lights. If people want, I might put a blog post up going into the photo in a bit more detail later.
Anyway my photo is the one at the top, Hugo’s is the one further down.

More adventures (and blog posts) to come!

A very white wedding. So far this year I’ve had lots of rain, and a little bit of sunshine at my weddings. I guess that left one weather condition out which was determined to make an appearance. Yep on Saturday for Rob and Catherine’s wedding it decided to snow. As I’m sure you’re all aware the whole week has been filled with snow, however we woke up in the morning to sun and blue skys. Kinda fortunate really since I was starting to get worried about the hour and a half drive I was going to have to make in the morning to make it for the wedding.
Well yes anyway, the weather was superb for the majority of the day, if a touch cold. Rob and Catherine got married at St Thomas More church in Leicester just a few minutes drive from Catherine’s parents’ house. It was a really beautiful ceremony for a really lovely couple (well as loverly as lawyers can get
)
I’m still sorting my way through the photos so you can rest assured there are a lot more to come but I just had to put this one up. Just as I was wrapping up for the evening we got the snow we had all
been hoping for. With a bit of lighting magic to turn on the outside light (yes it had no light bulb in it so I had to do it myself…) we managed to grab this. Enjoy!
Stay tuned, I’ll be updating this blog post with more photos as they come in.

It’s snowing! Yes as all my friends will tell you, I turn into a little boy in the snow. I love it, I always have and perhaps that’s why I enjoyed my time living in Boulder so much. Anyway in between snowball fights and building Doris the snow-woman at 3am, I took a quick trip out with the camera.
I always find it amazing how different everything looks with a little coat of snow. Hell, even the most hideous ’60’s architecture becomes bearable! Anyway here’s a few shots of Cambridge in the snow.

Wedding this weekend in Leicester; let’s hope the snow lasts but doesn’t become so thick I can’t make it! Looking forward to seeing you both Rob and Catherine.
More adventures to come!

So for those of you who don’t know, once a year, around Christmas time, the BBC descends on King’s College. The reason? Well it’s Christmas carol time and King’s happens to have one of the best choirs in the world.
This year they decided to cheat a bit and lit the entire outside. The reason was to give the impression of daylight while filming inside. Anyway, I happened to be driving past and it was quite a site to behold! Shame about all the scaffolding though
Mental note: Must try doing this myself sometime, how hard can it be to light an entire chapel?? (check out the last photo in this post.

More adventures to come!

Remember the Orc pictures way back in March (Part 1, Part 2)? Well Born of Hope, the film I was working on has just been released! Turns out one of the pictures I took of Arathorn was used in the main movie release poster. Check it out in this Danish newspaper!

More adventure to come.

Busy week, lots happened. Took photos. I think that just about sums it up…
Okay, I guess I should explain a touch more. I started my week taking photographs for the upcoming short film “Grace” directed by David O’Neill and produced by Emily Blickhem. It’s being shot around Cambridge and tells the story of a young rollerskating girl feeding her father’s addiction. The script’s really interesting and judging by the little I saw it should be a great film. Can’t wait to see it when it comes out.
Holly had been needing some new photographs for a while so I continued the week by taking some photos of her. It was great fun to get her in front of the camera again, she definitely knows how to work it! So yes that was my 1am to 3am slot filled on Friday…
Finally I finished the week on a very sunny Mill Road with the Lindy Hoppers for Mill Road’s winter fair. Really great to see so many of the townsfolk turn out and it gave me a great opportunity to test another of the shiny new lenses I’ve been buying recently! Anyway without further ado, here’s a brief look at the photos.
More adventures to come!

I used to drive past this location most days on my way to see Holly. I never stopped other than to curse the rail crossing barrier and considered the impending 10 minute wait. Well today I did different. I decided to investigate the derelict building which overlooks the rail crossing along with the lovely Juliette, with the purpose of taking some photographs.
We had quite the adventure, blown in the wind and unable to breathe due to a cold, we made our way along a field and up to the shell of a station house. The building itself is still in good shape however some of the beams are starting to show their frailty. Nonetheless, after a quick structural survey we made our way upstairs to be confronted with a brilliant wooden floor of the type you only find in old houses. Time was of the essence (we both had to be at a rehearsal for the impending Philip Pullman play ‘Clockwork’) so we got stuck in quickly getting a few photos before returning to the safety and warmth of the car.
Juliette, you’re a great sport, I look forward to more photoshoots in the future!

More adventures to come.
