Lumiere – Durham in Light
So, Durham Cathedral was built mainly by miners back in the 14th century. At that time the only light source during the long winter nights was candle. I wonder what its creators would have thought could they have seen the entirety of Durham lit by ultra modern, energy efficient electric light bulbs this past weekend.
Lumiere was the work of Artichoke – the same production company who brought the fourth plinth to life earlier this year and brought a giant spider to Liverpool last year. Anyway I went along with camera to investigate the winter wonderland. It was a really great experience (despite the weather) and I really hope they put it on again soon.

Chorus’s lights and sound amaze as people walk beneath the swinging pendulums.

La Salamandre captivate Durham’s locals with an intense fire show.

Finally, Durham Cathedral’s spire as viewed from the cloisters.

Great weekend, I only hope they do it again. Really can’t wait for the next Artichoke event!
More adventures to come.
