Fashion: Liz – Derelict House

So Saturday gave me the chance to photograph the gorgeous Liz, an aspiring model who needed some shots for her portfolio. Obviously I was happy to oblige and we decided to hit the haunted house you might have seen in a couple of other posts. It’s really an amazing location and every time I go there I come back wanting more! Literally around every corner there’s three more shooting locations.
Time was tight on Saturday and there was only me to carry gear so I went with a simple two light setup and we only managed a few locations at the house. Liz made it easy though, I mean how can you go wrong photographing somebody like her! Monkey press buttons and get nice shot….

Strobist info: 1 SB900 high camera right into a Extra Small Chimera Softbox with a 60° grid on the front to prevent spill. Back light is from a 540Ez camera left zoomed and fired at Liz.

Hit the jump for more pictures…

Strobist: 1 540Ex out of the window to the right zoomed right in to create the nice natural looking window light. Fill is from an SB900 in an Extra Small Chimera softbox. Monkey press shutter.

Ok, so these weren’t from the haunted house. We also grabbed a few quick shots before we headed out. I really love how the butterfly lighting suits Liz though. Naturally she’s a really smiley and happy person, get her in front of the camera though and boy does she look like she could walk right through you!

Back to the house again and I had to put her in front of that wall again…

Awesome hey? I really love that house and I couldn’t ask for a better person to shoot (well other than Holly but I think there’s a certain degree of bias coming out there…). Anyway, best of luck with the modeling Liz, I really hope to get another chance to shoot you sometime soon.

  2. Well, if you ever need anyone to carry extra lighting gear around for you, I’d be more than happy to oblige! More great shots here. It looks like a brilliant location.

If you’ve been wondering why we haven’t been inviting you out on any Cambridge Obscura shoots recently it’s because we haven’t been having any. We’ve had this “photobooth” project in the works that’s been keeping us busy. We built a full size novelty photobooth and have been taking to local events. So far, its just been for charity. There are a few photos from it scattered around my page.

Anyway, it’d be good to meet up for a beer at some point and talk photography.

  3. Thanks Dave. Photobooth sounds like a hoot, I tried one myself once for charity, I did it as a bit more of a studio type thing though. Let me know when you’re around if you want a pint, gossip about cameras or to go shoot something!

  5. Hi Olly, I can’t really say here but if you google you’ll find a whole host of derelict houses and buildings around Cambridge.
